The answer depends upon the motive and method. Effective communication involves sensitivity to others, of the feelings, level of receptiveness and your understanding and mastery of your communication tools (appearance comportment and speech). To motivate employees, you need to learn what makes them tick. Adjusting your appearance or body language to motivate is not manipulative. It is effective management and supportive to the employee in being more productive. Having your communication tools (words, body language, and appearance) in harmony and aligned with your goal will support you in having honest communications
