What are continuing education units (CEU) and do the need them?
The CEU is an internationally recognized educational credit that has been in existence for over 20 years. It was developed by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET). If you are an AICI member who has achieved any of the certification levels you will be required to earn CEU's to retain your status within AICI. If you are not yet a member of the AICI and/or have not yet achieved your certified member status in AICI then you are not required to earn CEU's. However, we do encourage all professional image consultants to continue their professional education, to keep current on skills and trends. For additional information check out the education page at AICI or call us, we would be happy to help you. -
How do I gain clients?
We gear the Propel Your Business to Profit class towards all entrepreneurs who want to accelerate the sales process by converting mild interest to "I need this, I can't wait to hire you!" In this module you will develop an ability to communicate with confidence, clarity and conviction. The class introduces you to a methodology for designing client solutions, needs assessments, simplifying the sales process, and building a successful consultant/training practice. The instructor, Dominique Isbecque, makes it a point to coach her graduates after training to insure a smooth transition from training to career. -
How will the trainings help me communicate to clients?
Dominique is a master communicator. And, communication is definitely a specialty of hers and one of her favorite things to teach. In the Image Builder Modules, she discusses the art of communication as it relates to individual clients both men and women. Groups and corporate communication is dealt with in regards to target market and the presentation part is dealt more in her Propel Your Business to Profit module. -
Can I start my image business immediately after taking the training?
With each training module you will know how to deliver the skills learned in that program for clients professionally. For example, after Color Analysis you will be able to do color analysis on clients, identify their best color palettes based upon skintone, hair and eye color. Most consultants will typically practice with a few people before asking to be paid. We do bring practice models into the color class for you to learn on. With the color analysis training you are also entitled to 3 hours of complementary usage of the consulting room for practice or paying clients. -
What would you say your school offers that others may not?
Dominique has been image consulting for 30 years and training others to do so as well. She has an amazing wealth of resources that she shares with her students. In addition, the classes are team taught with trainer, Carol Davidson, who is a master of the client development relationship and a former Manager of Macy’s personal shopping department. You can come back and review any module you’ve taken (as long as there is room available) at no cost to you. And depending on what modules you take, Dominique offers free coaching hours to her graduates to help with the transition from student to professional. Our mission is to help you reach your goals first and foremost and we design our training programs on the needs you have for your growing business. Finally, at the end of the program you receive a certificate from the fashion capital of the world, New York City. Dominique is an AICI co-founder and an image consultant pioneer – you couldn’t be in better hands! -
Does your course give you the license to instruct others?
The training modules and the Intensive provides you with skills and certification to work with your clients. It is not designed nor does it certify you as a trainer to other consultants. If you are interested in being trained as a trainer, we have licensed other image professionals and given them official permission to train our methods and using our materials. If you are interested in exploring a licensing relationship, please contact us. -
Do you offer online or distance learning?
We are currently working on this, as we have had numerous requests. In the interim, please check out our in-person classes held in NYC’s Fashion District. We will be converting some of the content from these live classes into a distance learning format. In addition, we will also be promoting a series of business building tele-classes designed to help with your image business development. -
What kind of Make-up and Hair Training is offered?
During our Image Intensive program there is Make Up Lessons and Hair Style critiques where you learn your own make up application for you along with tips as to how to give your clients Make-Up direction. Make-up and hair is touched on during the IB Mods during Color Analysis. Our makeup instruction is intended to give you guidelines and direction so that you can in turn give direction to your clients. You will have the vocabulary, the awareness of what’s right for them and resources as to where you can obtain more practice or experience later. The training classes includes the differences between a professional look, creative or artistic look, versus a natural sporty look. We can certainly arrange for a private consultation with our hairstylist while you are here at no charge. We can look into arranging a make-up artist consultation as well.
With regard to hair our hair stylist will explain how to make choices that support the client’s features, face shapes and characteristics and goals, and also how to have a conversation with them. The hair stylist will also give each student feedback so that you can learn the appropriate way to give critique while receiving feedback yourself.
I want the BEST most complete training there is. -
If that's the case, would you recommend the a la carte or the boot camp?
The main difference between the two programs is the amount of time and coverage. The IB Mods utilize an immersion approach that trains you in the essential consulting skills while applying those skills with live clients during the training program. It builds practice into the training schedule and allows you to build your skills and confidence to a deeper and higher level. The Intensive provides first level immersion in all of the essential skills in development areas needed to be successful in this field, but additional practice is strongly suggested. The Intensive is a good fit for those who want to get a jump-start on their business and don’t have a lot of time allotted for training. It also includes many of the start-up tools needed to begin working with clients very quickly -
What hotels and accommodations are nearby?
With regard to lodging options, the Fashion/Garment District, Theater District, Chelsea or Hell’s Kitchen area is close to our training center. (Please note: Hell’s Kitchen is not a scary area…although it may sounds that way.) We have attached a list of hotel options in the area for your review, but encourage you to look online (i.e. www.hotels.com) for competitive rates. Some students have looked on Craig’s List and the like for temporary sublets and have been pleasantly surprised. On occasion, when it is available, we have recommended a private apartment. The rates are reasonable and transportation to our training center is convenient. If you are interested and would like to check availability, please see here. -
How do I apply to be an intern?
Send your resume to info@ircny.com. If your skills are a good fit for our team, we will set up either a phone or in-person interview with you and the head of our center, Dominique Isbecque.
The internship is unpaid and most of our interns help create our Image Consulting Tools, do marketing, and administrative work. Depending on what your skills are we would have you participate in activities that would most benefit your business development goals.
